Context

The information an AI can 'see' at one time — its working memory for a task.

Definition

Context is everything an AI model has access to when generating a response: the current message, the conversation history, any documents you've attached, and the system instructions set by the application. Models have a fixed context window — a maximum amount of information they can hold at once. Longer contexts allow richer, more accurate responses, but require more computing power. If a conversation exceeds the context limit, the model may lose access to earlier parts of the discussion.
