Agentic Workflow

A process where an AI plans and executes a series of steps to complete a complex task.

Definition

An agentic workflow is a business process that is substantially run by an AI agent, with the AI handling planning, decision-making, and action-taking across multiple steps. Examples include: an AI that processes incoming supplier invoices from receipt through to approval-ready status, or one that monitors a data feed, identifies anomalies, researches context, and drafts an alert for human review. Agentic workflows blur the line between 'AI tool' and 'AI employee.'
