Agents & Automation

Computer Use

The ability of an AI agent to control a computer — clicking, typing, and navigating software.

Definition

Computer use (also called GUI agents or UI automation) enables an AI to interact with software through the same interface a human would — moving a cursor, clicking buttons, filling forms, and reading what's on screen. This means AI can operate legacy software that has no API, perform tasks across multiple applications, and automate workflows that were previously too complex for traditional robotic process automation. Anthropic's Claude, among others, has developed computer use capabilities.

Why this matters for your business

Computer use agents can automate legacy system processes that have resisted automation because they predate API-first software design. This includes many ERP, accounting, and government portal interactions.
