AI training for government

Practical AI training for public sector teams, delivered in person at your offices.

Public sector work carries obligations that a general AI course does not touch: things you may have to disclose, decisions you have to be able to explain, and money you have to account for. These sessions cover the same practical ground as our commercial training, written for people who have to show their working.

Special offer

Teams of more than 50 people can ask for one 3-hour session free of charge, delivered in person within 45 minutes' travel of Cheltenham.

Requests from government and public bodies are approved as a matter of course. The offer is still subject to approval, and the monthly limits below still apply, but we do not turn public sector requests away on their merits.

The same subjects are covered in more depth on our half-day and full-day courses, which are tailored to your organisation and charged at our normal rates. The free session is the short, general version of them.

The conditions, in full

  1. 1One session of 3 hours, delivered in person at your premises, at no charge.
  2. 2Your organisation must have a team of more than 50 people.
  3. 3Your premises must be within 45 minutes' travel of Cheltenham by road. The towns we cover are listed on this page.
  4. 4The session runs one of the programmes on this page exactly as published. It is general training: the content is not customised to your organisation or to your use cases, and we make no edits to it.
  5. 5Every request is subject to approval, and approval is not guaranteed.
  6. 6We approve a maximum of 5 free sessions in any calendar month. Once that month is full, you can either take a free place in a later month or book at our normal rates, which start at £450 + VAT for a half day.
  7. 7We may withdraw this offer at any time.
  8. 8A government department may take 1 free session per calendar month.
  9. 9Tell us the department or directorate when you get in touch, so the monthly limit is applied to the right one.

In short: a maximum of 5 free sessions go out each month across everyone who asks. Ask early in the month if the date matters to you.

Curriculum

Choose one of 4 programmes

Each runs for 3 hours at your premises. Pick the one closest to what your team does, and we deliver it as it is written here.

These are fixed programmes. They are general training, delivered exactly as published. The content is not customised to your organisation or to your use cases, and we make no edits to it. If you need training built around your own systems, processes, and examples, that is a different piece of work and is quoted separately.

Option 13 hoursIn person, at your premises

AI Fundamentals for Public Sector Teams

The starting session. What these tools do, where they fail, and how to use them on everyday administrative work without creating a problem for someone else.

What the session covers

  • What generative AI actually does, without the jargon
  • Why it invents things, and how to catch it when it does
  • Writing prompts that produce a usable draft rather than filler
  • What must never be typed into a public AI tool
  • Where it genuinely saves time in administrative and policy work

Who it is for: Whole-team sessions for administrative, operational, and policy staff. No technical background needed.

Option 23 hoursIn person, at your premises

Responsible and Accountable AI Use

The session for teams whose work affects members of the public, covering the record you leave behind and the decisions that stay with a person.

What the session covers

  • Explaining how a piece of work was produced, months later
  • Bias and unequal outcomes, and how they enter AI output
  • Keeping records of AI-assisted work that survive scrutiny
  • Where a named officer must decide, and cannot delegate to a tool
  • Handling information requests that touch AI use

Who it is for: Casework, correspondence, regulatory, and service delivery teams.

Option 33 hoursIn person, at your premises

AI for Correspondence, Casework and Reporting

The session for the volume work: long documents in, structured output out, without losing the detail that matters.

What the session covers

  • Summarising consultations, evidence packs, and long reports
  • Drafting standard correspondence and holding replies
  • Triaging and categorising inbound casework
  • Turning meeting and site notes into structured records
  • Building a prompt library the whole team reuses

Who it is for: Casework, correspondence, business support, performance, and reporting teams.

Option 43 hoursIn person, at your premises

AI for Senior Officers and Leadership

The governance session. What to approve, what to write down, and what to ask a supplier before signing anything.

What the session covers

  • Questions that separate a real AI product from a repackaged one
  • Writing an internal AI use policy staff will actually follow
  • Assurance, risk registers, and what to report upwards
  • Where AI belongs in a business case, and where it does not
  • Running a controlled pilot rather than an open rollout

Who it is for: Directors, heads of service, senior officers, and elected members.

Why this is different

Written for government, not adapted on the day

Central government departments and their agencies, local authorities, combined authorities, town and parish councils, NHS bodies, emergency services, regulators, and arm's-length bodies.

Disclosure

What staff type into an AI tool, and what it produces, can fall within a Freedom of Information request or a subject access request. Sessions cover what that means for drafting, note-taking, and casework, before it becomes a live request.

Decisions about people

A decision affecting a member of the public has to be explainable by the officer who made it. We cover where AI can legitimately help prepare a decision, and where it stops.

Public money

AI removes effort in some places and adds review time in others. Sessions are direct about which is which, so a business case is built on the difference rather than on the headline.

Tools you have and tools you do not

Most organisations have an approved tool and a long tail of unapproved ones staff are already using. We cover how to tell them apart and what to do about the tail.

These sessions are training on working practice. They are not legal advice, and they do not replace your own legal, information governance, or data protection functions.

Who this is open to

  • Central government departments, agencies, and arm's-length bodies
  • County, district, borough, city, and unitary authorities
  • Combined authorities, town councils, and parish councils
  • NHS trusts, integrated care boards, and other health bodies
  • Police, fire, and other emergency services
  • Regulators, inspectorates, and public corporations
