Repetition Penalty

A setting that discourages the AI from repeating the same phrases.

Definition

Without a repetition penalty, language models can fall into repetitive loops, especially in longer outputs — reusing phrases, repeating points, or cycling through similar sentences. A repetition penalty reduces the probability of tokens that have recently appeared, discouraging redundancy. This improves the coherence and quality of longer AI-generated content such as reports, summaries, and documents.
