AI training for charities

Practical AI training for charity teams, delivered in person at your offices.

Charity teams are being asked to do more with the same staff, and AI is the tool everybody says will close the gap. Some of that is true and some of it is not. These sessions are built to tell the difference, using the work charities actually do: applications, supporter communications, case notes, reporting, and the administration that fills the week.

Special offer

Teams of more than 50 people can ask for one 3-hour session free of charge, delivered in person within 45 minutes' travel of Cheltenham.

Requests from charities are considered individually and approved at our discretion. Approval is not guaranteed, and a request that meets every condition on this page can still be declined.

The same subjects are covered in more depth on our half-day and full-day courses, which are tailored to your organisation and charged at our normal rates. The free session is the short, general version of them.

The conditions, in full

  1. 1One session of 3 hours, delivered in person at your premises, at no charge.
  2. 2Your organisation must have a team of more than 50 people.
  3. 3Your premises must be within 45 minutes' travel of Cheltenham by road. The towns we cover are listed on this page.
  4. 4The session runs one of the programmes on this page exactly as published. It is general training: the content is not customised to your organisation or to your use cases, and we make no edits to it.
  5. 5Every request is subject to approval, and approval is not guaranteed.
  6. 6We approve a maximum of 5 free sessions in any calendar month. Once that month is full, you can either take a free place in a later month or book at our normal rates, which start at £450 + VAT for a half day.
  7. 7We may withdraw this offer at any time.
  8. 8Tell us your headcount when you get in touch, and whether it includes regular volunteers.

In short: a maximum of 5 free sessions go out each month across everyone who asks. Ask early in the month if the date matters to you.

Towns within 45 minutes of Cheltenham

Drive times are estimated from Cheltenham and depend on traffic and on where your premises sit within a town, so we confirm the journey before approving a booking. If your town is not listed but you think you are inside the radius, ask and we will check it.

Curriculum

Choose one of 4 programmes

Each runs for 3 hours at your premises. Pick the one closest to what your team does, and we deliver it as it is written here.

These are fixed programmes. They are general training, delivered exactly as published. The content is not customised to your organisation or to your use cases, and we make no edits to it. If you need training built around your own systems, processes, and examples, that is a different piece of work and is quoted separately.

Option 13 hoursIn person, at your premises

AI Fundamentals for Charity Teams

The starting session. What these tools do, where they go wrong, and how to get something useful out of them on a Monday morning.

What the session covers

  • What generative AI actually does, without the jargon
  • Why it invents things, and how to catch it when it does
  • Writing prompts that produce a usable draft rather than filler
  • What must never be typed into a public AI tool
  • Three tasks in your week where it saves real time

Who it is for: Whole-team sessions for staff, volunteers, and trustees. No technical background needed.

Option 23 hoursIn person, at your premises

Responsible AI and Beneficiary Data

The session for organisations holding information about vulnerable people, where the wrong tool used once is a safeguarding problem rather than an IT problem.

What the session covers

  • Personal and special category data, and where AI tools sit against it
  • Safeguarding information and why it stays out of AI tools entirely
  • Bias in AI output, and where it shows up in charity work
  • Keeping a record of AI-assisted work that stands up later
  • Deciding, as a team, where you will not use AI at all

Who it is for: Frontline, casework, and service delivery teams, and anyone handling beneficiary records.

Option 33 hoursIn person, at your premises

AI for Fundraising, Bids and Communications

The session for the people writing applications and talking to supporters, aimed at the drafting time rather than the thinking time.

What the session covers

  • First drafts of funding applications and a case for support
  • Checking a draft application against a funder's published criteria
  • Supporter and donor communications that still sound like you
  • Turning one story into a newsletter, a social post, and a report
  • What AI must never be left to write on its own, including impact claims and beneficiary stories

Who it is for: Fundraising, bid writing, marketing, and communications staff.

Option 43 hoursIn person, at your premises

AI for Trustees and Charity Leaders

The governance session. What to decide, what to write down, and what to ask a supplier before you believe them.

What the session covers

  • Writing an AI policy short enough that a small organisation will follow it
  • Risk and reputational exposure, and what belongs on the risk register
  • Questions that separate a real AI product from a repackaged one
  • Reporting AI use to trustees, funders, and regulators
  • Choosing the first thing to trial, and how to tell whether it worked

Who it is for: Chief executives, directors, heads of service, and trustees.

Why this is different

Written for charities, not adapted on the day

Registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, trusts and foundations, housing associations, hospices, community interest companies, and social enterprises.

Beneficiary information

Charities hold some of the most sensitive information anyone holds. Sessions are explicit about what should never be typed into a general-purpose AI tool, and about the work that can still be done usefully inside that limit.

Small teams, wide jobs

One person often covers fundraising, communications, and administration in the same week. The training targets the tasks that consume the most time across a mixed job, rather than one specialist workflow.

Funders and trustees ask

You may be asked how AI is used in your work, by a funder, a regulator, or your own board. Sessions cover what to write down as you go, so the answer is short and already prepared.

Mixed rooms

Staff, volunteers, and trustees often attend together, with very different levels of confidence. Nothing assumes a technical background, and nobody is asked to install anything to take part.

These sessions are training on working practice. They are not legal advice, and they do not replace your own legal, information governance, or data protection functions.

Who this is open to

  • Registered charities and charitable incorporated organisations
  • Grant-making trusts and foundations
  • Housing associations and hospices
  • Community interest companies and social enterprises
  • Volunteer-led organisations with paid staff
