Top-K

A setting that restricts the AI to choosing from only the K most likely next tokens.

Definition

Top-K sampling limits the model's next-token choices to the K tokens with the highest predicted probability. If K = 50, the model can only choose from the 50 most likely options at each step. This prevents extremely unlikely tokens from appearing while preserving some variety. Top-K is often combined with Top-P and temperature for finer control over output characteristics.
