About the role

As a Forward Deployed AI Implementation Engineer within our Automations team, you will work on-site and remotely alongside client teams to architect, configure, and embed AI-powered workflows into their core operations. You are the technical face of Coaley Peak — translating complex AI capabilities into practical, auditable, and commercially measurable outcomes.

This is not a traditional engineering role behind a desk. You will spend meaningful time in client environments, running discovery workshops, mapping existing processes, identifying high-impact automation opportunities, and then building the solutions. You will be supported by our internal AI Engine R&D team and report directly to the Head of Automations.

We are looking for someone who thrives in ambiguity, communicates confidently at board level and developer level alike, and takes genuine pride in seeing a piece of technology change how an organisation operates.

The kind of person we are looking for

At Coaley Peak, the technical work is only half the job. We are looking for people who are genuinely reliable — who do what they say they will, when they said they would, without needing to be chased. People who are friendly and easy to work with, both with colleagues and with clients. People who can sit in a boardroom and explain a complex AI model in plain English, and then go back to their laptop and write clean, well-documented code. People who are hungry, hard-working, and take real pride in their output — not because someone is watching, but because that is simply how they operate.

This role specifically suits someone who enjoys being in the room with clients — not just on calls, but genuinely curious about how their businesses work and motivated by seeing the direct impact of your technical work on their bottom line. You are patient when teaching non-technical stakeholders, precise when writing code, and proactive when something is not quite right. You do not wait to be asked.

What you will do

  • Lead end-to-end technical deployment of AI automation solutions across a portfolio of client environments
  • Conduct structured discovery workshops with client stakeholders to map workflows and identify automation opportunities with the greatest ROI
  • Architect and build bespoke AI pipelines using Coaley Peak's proprietary engine stack and third-party LLM integrations (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, etc.)
  • Provide hands-on implementation support during go-live periods, including planned on-site client presence
  • Write clear technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials tailored to non-technical client teams
  • Monitor deployed solutions post-launch; iterate based on performance data, usage telemetry, and client feedback
  • Contribute to internal R&D, sharing repeatable patterns and learnings from client engagements to improve our automation frameworks
  • Support the commercial team in pre-sales: technical scoping, solution demonstrations, and proof-of-concept builds
  • Ensure all deployed solutions comply with applicable data protection legislation (UK GDPR, DPA 2018) and client-specific security requirements

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; comfortable writing and reviewing production-grade automation code
  • Hands-on experience integrating with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or similar) in a professional or project context
  • Demonstrable experience building workflow automation systems using tools such as n8n, Make, Zapier, Temporal, or equivalent custom solutions
  • Excellent client-facing communication skills — able to explain complex technical concepts clearly and confidently to non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments, adapting quickly to client-specific constraints and organisational dynamics
  • Demonstrable right to work in the United Kingdom

Desirable (not essential)

  • Experience designing and deploying RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures and working with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, or similar)
  • Familiarity with enterprise SaaS ecosystems: CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), ERP, HRIS, marketing platforms, and their API surfaces
  • Prior experience in a consulting, professional services, or client-facing technical delivery role
  • Understanding of UK data protection obligations (UK GDPR, DPA 2018) and their practical application in AI systems
  • Experience within ISO 9001 or ISO 27001 quality management frameworks

What we offer

  • Salary of £55,000 – £80,000 per annum, dependent on experience, reviewed annually
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Flexible hybrid working — Cheltenham HQ, client sites, and remote
  • Private healthcare and employee assistance programme (EAP)
  • £2,000 annual professional development budget
  • Access to the latest AI tooling, compute resources, and research
  • Regular team offsites and an annual international travel programme
  • A high-trust culture with real autonomy — we measure outcomes, not hours
  • Accredited Living Wage Employer
